Arts Education & Outreach

ArtsMemphis is launching a new grant program for arts education and outreach. This bold new initiative to support the arts outreach programming of museums, performing arts companies, visual arts centers and other arts groups in Shelby County will broaden and deepen impact of arts education and outreach throughout the community.

Knowing that the arts have the power to transform lives, we aim to reach wider and deeper into communities that have little or no exposure to the arts. Based on extensive research into the impact arts education programs have had in Memphis and all over the country, as well as a thorough understanding of the unique needs of our city and our schools, we have developed the following  threefold focus:

  • Geographical: Programs that address any of the following areas: Binghampton, Frayser, Orange Mound, Soulsville, Whitehaven and Hickory Hill
  • Social Issues: Programs that address societal problems, including but not limited to bullying, special needs, gun violence, economic vitality, urban blight, mental health, obesity and literacy
  • Collaboration to serve diverse populations: Programs that collaborate to reach more of our population through entities such as schools, city programs, senior centers, other non-profit organizations, community centers and libraries

ArtsMemphis will serve as the backbone organization for this effort, guiding the overall vision; connecting groups, needs and resources; building public will; and measuring progress.

To apply for funding, an organization MUST have attended one of two informational sessions on May 8 and 9, 2012. If you represent a group that would like to apply for funding, contact Barb Gelb, Arts Education & Outreach Program Director, at 578.2787x213 or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
