Playhouse on the Square's Theatre for Youth Program, born in 1985, now serves close to 30,000 young people every year in Memphis, Shelby County and beyond. From preschoolers to young adults, they all are engaged and enlightened, either as audience members or as active participants. Memphis Symphony Ochestra- Music has the cultural capacity to inform and influence, and at its heart, the Memphis Symphony Orchestra is an educator. The MSO artistically engages the community with quality learning programs like LEADING FROM EVERY CHAIR®, the experiential workshop for corporate leaders; Family Tunes and Tales, a Saturday morning series of library performances based on children's literature; and Music Mentoring at The Soulsville Charter School. The Stax Museum of American Soul Music, located at the original site of Stax Records, is the world's only soul music museum. It houses a collection of more than 3,000 videos, exhibits, musical instruments, stage costumes, records, photographs, vintage recording devices, and other items of memorabilia that tell the unique story of how soul music was created in Memphis, Tennessee and beyond. Opera Memphis offers a variety of education programs designed to encourage interest in music and the arts. Last season, the Opera Memphis Department of Education and Outreach reached more than 15,000 people across the MidSouth. Programs include the award-winning Songwriting Program, Black Roots of Song, Artist-in-Residence Tour and Summer Opera Conservatory.
